I'm done with this game. I can't stand playing it anymore. The item rng system is fucked. The way it works is that the second, third, and fourth players can get powerful items like bullet Bill or Star if the game deems the players in front of you are too far away.
In Mario Kart Wii and 7 you'd only get bullet Bill if you were in last or near last. In 8 you can get it in anytime below 1. There's been so many times where I was leading in first, got hit by a star, dropped to third, and then got hit by a bullet Bill and raped by a million more bullet bills and stars.
Unlike in past Mario Karts, there are no cool-down times for these items.
Not to mention, there's a bevy of new horrible items introduced, like this stupid piranha plant that speed boosts and bites anyone in front of it. It's so overpowered and worse yet the fourth player can get it and ruin whatever lead you had in second or third.
The game punishes you for playing well. There's 0 incitives to play well. What I ended up doing was intentionally played bad and stayed in second place just so I could avoid getting raped by leading in front.
It's so bad. I understand why I only ever see player scores under 2000. I can't imagine being able to play this game online long term like I did with prior Mario Karts.
I don't understand how normies enjoy it either. It's absolute chaos by lap 3 if you're in any position under 4.
