Everyone on a thread kept saying that the fact that Misaki couldn't help him means that it wasn't wish fulfillment and it was actually realistic. But what happened with Misaki was in truth the most optimal outcome for the author: a loser hikikomori NEET who more than anything wanted to feel useful, his condition wouldn't have gotten fixed by being saved by a girl. Instead, he is the one who saves the girl. He found his equal and he saved her life. This is the ultimate wet dream for the hikikomori author with self-esteem issues.
