Back when slavery was around people sold others into permanent servitude with the only end being death.
Today we are rented out by companies with the "promise" of being free from the need to work via retirement. The only thing wrong with that is we work ourselves to death well before it, even if we can reach retirement it hasn't been keeping pace with inflation so we will still have to work until we die.
We are absolutely fucked, their is no escape from this anymore.
You could by land but you will still need to work to pay bogus taxes on said land.
You can try to live in a forest but with all the drone surveillance and dependency on society, you will most like be found and charged with various crimes. Then be forced to be a worse off slave in prison getting paid literal pennies.
