That phrase basically doesnt exist anymore but was super popular when I was a kid. My parents were always telling me I had to be super careful about what I posted online and there were digital footprint lessons in class in elementary school.

One time I made an animation of the dad from Peppa Pig getting bullied for being fat then committing a mass shooting and my parents were talking about how I would get fired from my future jobs because of that which scared me into deleting it.

I have OCD so I became super obsessed and afraid which caused me to restrict a lot of my behavior in fear I would lose some job in the future, which just pisses me off now because even if it was possible, it wouldn't matter now as i'm neeting anyways.

I was never afraid of it tbh. I always tried to make myself a ghost online, and in person, I don't "reveal my true form." Been pretty good at doing so far now.

If you posted that on an account under your real name, or an account that could possibly be linked to your real life identity, then that absolutely could have (and likely WOULD have) fucked you over in terms of employment in the future.

A lot of people get fucked from something they posted on social media without even realizing it. Companies let people go (or they simply don't renew your contract) and a lot of the time they don't tell you why. But what's much more common is they just won't hire you in the first place. It's 2025, companies do background checks for even minimum wage positions, and this includes searching your social media. If they see anything even remotely offensive or controversial on your social media, your application goes straight into the garbage. And they're pretty thorough. When it comes to social media posts under your real life identity, you really do need to think "could this potentially offend a woke karen?" because those are the majority of people who work in HR.

Anyway, cancel culture never went anywhere. If anything, things are even more extreme than ever. The difference is most people have adapted to it. The current meta is to pretend to be woke in real life and on your profiles that use your real name, and to have separate accounts for discussing unpopular opinions, making edgy jokes, and general shitposting. These alt accounts should have nothing linking back to your real life identity, or any other accounts that could be linked back to your real life identity. Use throw away e-mails, VPNs, etc. That way you can't get cancelled and the worst they can do is report your post and it potentially getting taken down and your account possibly banned, in which case you can just make a new account. Everyone kind of understands this and everyone's guard is up. The only people saying politically incorrect things on accounts attached to their real name these days are public figures with fanbases large enough to financially support them, and literal baby boomers who are retired and thus have no job to be fired from and don't have to worry about future employment.

Exactly. I'm just too scared to even engage in my company's group chats. I have realized no matter how disciplined I am, if I were in the flow of the conversation, I'd slip up at least once sooner or later and that'd be enough.

Just be a good little goy and follow the norms!!!

Afraid? Not like cels have much to lose
