My whole life I've been led to believe that I hate superheros and superhero comics, superhero movies, superhero animated series, superhero everything. But having watched quite a few video essays and random clips on youtube I realized that my perception was poisoned by the hollywood and mass media noise of the last decades. Turns out the things that I actually hated were first of all, marvel-related. But more importantly, I simply detest live-action superhero adaptations of any kind. Marvel cinematic universe as a whole. Not that DC is any better in this regard. I don't know how anyone can watch this shit with a straight face. To me it's peak normie cringe. No thank you, my disbelief is not suspended. If anything, I want to suspend myself by the neck. Anyway.
I realized that comics and animated series somehow work fine for me. Suddenly I don't want to kill myself out of cringe. And I actually want to know more about the source material and its characters. But I don't know where to start. I can't buy comic series or books legally even if I wanted to. My only option is to pirate (proudly) . But even then, the entire corpus of superhero stuff is massive. Most of it probably isn't worth my time. So in this thread I am reaching out to you for pointers.
Yeah yeah this thread is not about anime or manga. Just rename the subforum already.
