Progressivism is a rejection of reality. To be a progressive you have to ignore obvious truths and embrace the progressive narrative in an act of religious faith. When free speech is allowed, you'll find that progressivism starts to lose its hold as obvious facts come to light. That's why progressive societies almost always employ heavy censorship and propaganda. When they are not allowed to censor their opponents then progressives become violent and demand the death of their opponents. After all, they believe they're in a battle of good vs evil. Those political commentators who exposed statistics regarding black on white crime? Future genocides are waiting to happen.
Progressives don't actually believe in "democracy." Democracy is a buzzword most of them barely grasp. True democracy would allow those they disagree with to share their thoughts, which they don't desire. They don't want to debate their political opponents firstly because they cannot defend their own beliefs. Secondly, because they see their political opponents not as civil opponents, but as fascists they desire to kill.
So when free speech actually exists, what you see is these progressives advocating for and committing violence. Charlie Kirk is a perfect example of this.
