In many cases democracy has failed because the average person is too stupid to understand anything about how the government even works or what's it's even doing. The only politicians who will ever win are those who can promise people the world, they don't have to explain how they are gonna do it they promise and they never deliver.

The aid to Ukraine is meant to fuck with Russia who the US considers an adversary. When the US was buying a bunch of submarines or ICBMs or whatever, it was to counter Russia. If you want to be fucking with Russia, giving money to Ukraine is much more efficient. I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, but spending money to fuck with Russia has been going on since WW2. Ukraine is just the latest money sink. In terms of dollars spent per Russians killed, spending money on Ukraine is much more efficient than what the US was doing throughout the Cold War.
