I live in the us northeast and when I was young, the major city right next to me was already known to be terrible, poor, and crime ridden. When I was young, I thought it also just happened to be majority African and Puerto Rican/spanish while my middle class suburb happened to be ~95% white. This was proven false to me when they started moving into my suburb. My whole town has been reverse gentrified in the matter of a decade. I used to be able to walk around my town at night as a kid without having to worry about anything or anyone bothering me. Now, I can’t even walk around during the day without being aware of my surroundings as a grown man. I have also noticed that when they came here, so did poverty. Now, they are building several ghettos near my house alone.
Noticing that modern immigrants are different than the type of immigrants my ancestors were does not make me racist. I myself am part Mexican. My grandmothers family immigrated here from Mexico. However, they didn’t even consider themselves Mexican. They considered themselves fully American and didn’t even teach their kids Spanish. My father’s family came here from Ireland and Germany and they also were able to integrate into American society.
I have no issue with controlled immigration but all the good immigrants who want to contribute to and build up American society already came to America. The immigrants now are only coming here to leech off of Americans and replace our society and I am not ok with that. I want the America I was promised.
I refuse to have any “white guilt” as most of my ancestors have been discriminated against much much more than they have discriminated others. The Irish were some of the first slaves in America, the English genocided the Irish with the potato famine, my German family came here prior to ww2, and the natives of the Americas were nearly wiped out with European disease. None of my ancestors owned slaves as the little Anglo ancestry I have, were poor midwesterners and northeasterners.
