Ukrainian counter attacking in Severodonetsk

This counterattack by the Ukrainians is really surprising in Severodonetsk. The city is across the river and at the end of the cauldron, and the Russians were up to 80-90% control of the city. Severodonetsk has ~100,000 people.

On the western side of the river is another city Lysychansk which also is around 100,000 people and under Ukrainian control.



One good thing.. finally we get to see the Chechens in a real fight. The Chechens always show up belatedly to the big fights after the Russians have clearly won. Then the Chechens work on the last few pockets in those cities, and make a ton of videos gloating about what great warriors they are.

So the Chechens showed up in Severodonetsk belatedly right at what looked to be the end of the fighting. But now the Ukrainians are counter attacking.

A good source of what is going on is 'Professor Michael Clarke' in the UK. I stumbled across videos of him on Youtube, then I searched him on Youtube with the upload date search feature. Hes one of the most senior military associated people in the UK. He is biased in being pro-Ukrainian but his actual analysis of what is going on in military terms doesn't seem biased to me, and he is super knowledgeable.

I don't expect the Ukrainian counter offensive to retake the city, but if they do this war is done for Russia imo. Because Russia put a lot of its available force into this fight in Severodonetsk and the odds are so favorable for the Russians with it being surrounded, at the end of the cauldron and across the river.

It seems to me like an attempt at a knock out blow by the Ukrainians. Like the military strategy would be to withdraw from the remainder of the city across the river to Lysychansk. The Ukrainians also sent in the foreign legion on this counter offensive. As the Ukrainians don't care if those guys die in the fight.

I got tired of them bragging how great they are but then every fight they were staying 100 km away from the fighting. Only coming after all the heavy fighting was done, and the city was won except a few pockets.. and then more videos and gloating about them taking the city.

I am expecting honestly them to make up some weak excuse on why they have to retreat, but trying to claim it as a victory.. like the usual 'setting a trap so the Ukrainians advance to right where we want them and so the Ukrainians get overconfident'.

Thing for the Chechens is this is their whole pride as a people on the line. They really have to stand and fight, even going down in the fight would preserve their image of bravery, and they could make up excuses like the Russians failed to resupply them or blame it on bad command decisions.

If they do retreat it would be ya they aren't as brave as the Russians or Ukrainians who are standing and fighting. Then Chechnya would just be a shitty poor place where they beat up on women and minorities but can't stand up to a real fight.

Chechens are not even white

They belong to the Nakh people, an ethnic group native to the NorthEast Caucasus. Many Chechens have white features, like blond/ginger hair and blue eyes. Many Chechens don't look white, because of mixing with the Muslims of Iranic tribes, because Muslims always had an obsession with white people and often had European women as their sex slaves.

Ya the soy redditors they really got what they wanted, since the Ukrainians don't care if those guys die, and the redditors want heroism, they can go to the hardest place in a surprise counter-offensive. And Ukraine might as well use them now incase they decide to leave. Definitely a lot will go down in this fight.


For me why it would be so big is if the Russians can't win there, where everything is in the Russian favor, then it would almost be irresponsible to fight on. It would require something new, like a mobilization of some reserves and sending a huge amount of more soldiers in to Ukraine to give some reasonable hope that they could win.

I think Ukraine will retake the whole country. My feeling is the Russian army is close to collapsing. Even if the Russian army fights on for awhile, the Ukrainians are going to have 100's of thousands more soldiers sometime around August. So there will be large Ukrainian offensives in the Fall. But I don't think the Russian army is going to stick around for those.
