Like the other day Germany made it so that all men 17 to 45 need permission from the military to leave the country. Europeans always defend this bullshit too. They voted for it. What concerns me are Americans who look at these policies and think we should have such policies here. There's an awful lot of them from what I've seen. Gen z Americans and unfortunately a lot of my fellow millennials are like this more often than not. Thankfully we have the first amendment, but honestly I don't know how much longer that's going to protect us.

Yeah I guess a better way to put it is that they don't necessarily want to be slaves themselves, but they would gleefully accept slavery if it would hurt their enemies as well (and possibly more).
A libertarian leaning person sees laws that infringe on free speech and civil liberties and sees a weapon that could be wielded unjustly by a tyrannical government, and potentially pointed at them or someone they care about. And they also see it as setting a dangerous precedent that could lead to even more restrictions on free speech and civil liberties.
But just about everyone else (but especially western europeans and americans who worship western europe) look at laws that infringe on free speech and civil liberties as a weapon they could potentially wield against people they don't like.
It also doesn't help that the types of people who support these laws have views that are well within the overton window and enemies that it is more socially acceptable to criticize, so in their mind they're getting to have their cake and eat it too.
There's an unfortunate reality where if you have two groups of people:
Group A: Wants everyone to have freedom, wants the government to leave them alone.
Group B: Wants to weaponize the government to oppress and dominate others, including "group A"
"Group B" will end up winning. That's why liberty and free speech have historically been rare, and globally still is. America is truly an anomaly in this sense.
Yeah, and as much as I hate to admit this as an American, it was ironically an Englishman (John Locke) that came up with the ideas that America was founded on. Our founding fathers basically took Locke's philosophy (especially his ideas about freedom of expression, individual liberty, people being born free and equal) and created a government almost entirely based on it.
Crazy how you guys went from the people of John Locke and George Orwell to being the giga-cucked authoritarian nightmare state you guys are today.
On a long enough timeline, it won't. The ones who support the first amendment are mostly boomers and gen x. Millennials and especially zoomers are strongly opposed to free speech and want more restrictions (eg. "hate speech laws").
Don't get me wrong, there's a lot I hate about boomers, in fact they're probably the worst generation to ever exist in many ways, but once they're gone, and once gen x starts dying off, the first amendment won't survive. The constitution will either be rewritten or just completely replaced with another system entirely.
It's also possible that the first amendment will still exist as it does today on paper, but in practice it will mean nothing. Sort of like how the 4th amendment still exists but it's trampled all over (eg. NSA, the CIA, the patriot act, etc.). One day you're going to have a supreme court filled with zoomers who grew up on tik tok and/or Tumblr. It's only a matter of time.
