I sat by myself at one of those spare tables in junior high. In high school, there were benches in the hall where you could eat lunch, and I ate there alone.

The benches gave illusion it wasn't as terrible.

No. I just sat and ate alone.

It was actually kind of nice having the whole table to myself, even when the rest of the cafeteria was crowded. It was the foid teacher-monitors that seemed to stare at me with disdain when they walked around the lunchroom observing everyone; definitely more than any of the students or male teachers.
