Story Today the fuse blew in our house and my dad no longer had electricity in his room. But I came up with a solution and I am proud of it

Apparently this is a fuse / circuit breaker. It is supposed to stop electricity when there is a problem. I think our vacuum cleaner is what set off a shortcircuit, dad was vacuuming in his room.

He told me that you are apparently supposed to replace the blown fuse. You need to figure out which one blew, and then you need to unscrew it, and then replace it with an identical part. He was thinking about going to the store to look for some tools and parts. This shit is so complicated :feelsUgh:

Also, we live in a rented apartment, I guess the landlord is supposed to take care of stuff like this, but he isn't very reliable and he also lives in another town, so it's a complicated mess.

But I came up with a solution :feelsokman:

I brought two extension cords. I connected the first one in the hallway, then I connected the second extension cord into the first one, then I brought it into my dad's room. It is not very elegant with the messy cables, but now my dad has electricity again, he can watch TV and plug in his laptop again :feelsokman:

I feel like I saved my dad a trip to the store, feels good to be helpful to him, he bought me Pepsi with lemon today :feelscomfy:

@MaldireMan0077 tagging the only electriciancel that I know :feelsokman:

You are wholesome bhai :feelsaww:

U lucky
It would have blew up in my face and electrised me with 5 bill watts

You would have to solve the fuse puzzle by trail and error but you used a glitch. Really smart but i would recomend buying some fuses and tool just to have some spare part if needed in future.

You can risk blowing the fuse from the room that still had power. Your basicly drawing more power from a single fuse then what was origonally drawn before the bad one fuse blown up.

Chances are the fuse just aged to death and the other fuses are in there final days in a nursing home. I recommend trying to change out all the fuses proactivly speacking. There porpose is to prevent a overload witch can cause shit like house fires or damage to electrical shit so fuses are a major saftey device along with breackers and GFCIs. So drawing power to a room from another room can easily risk blowing the fuse there.

Then again your dad should get a building inspector to check the house out. Having fuses instead of circut breackers is very rare since fuses are waaaayyyy obsolete. Everything a fuse is for in a house is better off replaced by a circut breacker. Another thing, if the inspector deems that the fuse pannel musf be swapped for a breacker pannel, thatll cost a fuck load of money and should be paid by the landlord. And a lawer migh end up involved if your dad vaules his financial dignity over the landlords ego.

Fuses are good for saftey measures in AC/Heatpumps but for housing, is aumish as fuck.

Well done :bigbrain:

If it works, it works :feelsokman:

Truecel trait: your house still has fuses

It's over for fusecels

Circuitbreakercels are moggers!

Too complicated :feelsokman:

I live in a 20th-century house, and practically all my technology is a century old, so I can't really relate. But I'm glad you were able to temporarily solve the problem— as a reward, I'll give you a hug

Oh, those fuses are ancient. Bonne chance finding some in Bucharest, I remember when I too used to live in a commie block that it took my dad three days to find one. But you live in the smaller town so old tech shouldn't be that hard to find.

Good thinking but it is a short term solution.

If it works, it works :feelsokman:

Almost everyone here who has power at there habitat has a circut breacker instead of a fuse box.

You did what many of us here would never dare do.

On the happy positive side of it, as an antique it's probably worth something.

If you researched it and found out more you might be able to use the money from selling it for a modern replacement.

Also, use a power strips with a built in fuselage to protect the circuit!

You might want to move out before the place burns Down bro. They didn't have very good wiring insulation back then...

Just saying.

Gtfo!

I live in an old communist apartment building, old fuses are still too common to be valuable

I thought circuit breakers were everywhere. Mine pop all the time in my Section 8 apartment.

Am too stupid to understand

There was a problem with electricity and to fix it, you're supposed to figure out which part of the fuse box broke, and then replace it with an identical part.

It is a huge hassle.

But I found a solution that bypasses the need to do all that complicated stuff. I just took some extension cords and plugged them in an outlet that still works, problem solved :feelsokman:
