The ancient Greeks did a lot of heavy thinking. The study of philosophy is a humbling experience. It shows you that there are no unique ideas. Things people think are just brilliant new ideas, the Greeks thought up and probably refuted thousands of years ago. Sam Harris' altruistic hedonism is a perfect example. His idea that science can determine moral values via the "pain" or "suffering" some action causes was defeated by Plato about 2,400 years ago.
