Far as we can tell none of the forensic evidence was conclusive. Him and his family and legal team were initially confident he'd be acquitted. He changed his plea to guilty towards the end mainly to avoid the death penalty, which his defense counsel repeatedly tried and failed to get removed.
That, and the impact statements and other commentaries all focused on his oddities. It pretty much boils down to a chopped Aspie getting bullied for who he was, and the perfect scapegoat to have a murder pinned on him.
Maybe he was innocent after all.
