I've seen this happen dozens and dozens of times.

I'll see something floating around online in niche circles, whether it be a meme, a word, a song, a video game, a political talking point/theory, a movie, etc.

Then it starts to pick up momentum on normie soycial media, then it goes mainstream and normies completely beat it into the ground while usually misunderstanding or missing the point of whatever the thing is.

This happened to the blackpill. It can happen to almost anything.

I wondered if there was anything that could been done to stop the cycle from getting the momentun it had.
I remember in 2020 the agartha hyperborea thing was getting popular, not popular enough but popular where if you were in these spaces or political spaces in internet you would know, then died down.
Then 2024 it became popular again, even more momentum than the last time. I wonder what was the cause of it dying suddenly though.
