Is it really self-improvement or fatalism? Humans/Society really do love pretending those are opposites.

Tiktoks and Reels scream in your face, "Go to the gym. Learn and express confidence. Work harder to get more money earlier on." :soy::foidSoy: But the moment someone tries to do it in real life, someone with no economical capabilities, society laughs and says, "You were finished the day you were born." In the end, they're both chasing the same thing: certainty, wanting to make sure they have a future.
The first wants to believe effort is always rewarded because that makes the world feel fair, like we even have a chance. The second one wants to believe effort is meaningless because failure hurts less when it was inevitable. Plus society needs the bottom layer of humans, the slaves of society after all. :feelsrope: They fail to see that neither can stand the truth. Humans aren't equations, something you can calculate. Some climb mountains only to fall back down. Others stumble into everything they ever wanted without understanding why. Chance, timing, appearance, personality and luck...it's all tangled together in a mess they desperately try to simplify. So in the end, they invent categories. As if reality could fit inside a drawer you can pick and choose to your will. It is honestly adorable.
Arguments go on for hours, hoping the winning argument will erase their fear. But it never does. And it never will. The man lifting weights wonders if it'll ever be enough. The man who surrendered wonders if he quit too soon.

They don't fear failure nearly as much as they fear uncertainty. But you can't protect yourself forever. :smonk:
So what can we do? Accept, be realistic and take each day as a win. Improve. Rise. All of this remembering your own ability. We ARE capable. :feelsaww: (yes this is hope in a message, deal with it)

Yeah, I guess its better to try and fail rather than LDAR for the rest of my life

Damn it’s pure nominalism and I disagree

Agree to disagree, what makes you think this is nominalism?
You said it’s not that people are really categorized in their ontology into certain classes but rather that this is our own naming and our own understanding. That is nominalism to me, I think there is only a limited combination of human traits that is known well enough that generalization is neccessary in some situations and further granularity like β€œoh but I am different! I don’t fit any category” is an illusion coming from inadequate knowledge of the categories themselves.

I agree fully on the fact that we do need some type of generalization but what I meant to say is that we shouldn't limit into those categories only for the rest of our lifes, we can change in some levels after all. Sorry if I didn't express myself the best the first time and thank you for sharing your opinion. :feelsYall:

Nah you are expressing yourself good, no problem.

I agree yeah, there is more than two categories but ultimately with such a population and history we all fit some categories
