Toponymy is now our thing
My main argument was that cities, states and countries should follow a simple and expected naming convention whose purpose should be to make things as easy to understand as possible, and my main example was the country of Panama.
en.wikipedia.org
The capital of Panama is Panama City, located in the Panama Province, in the Panama District. Everything here makes sense, there is no room for confusion
My main argument against having random historical names was the British Columbia province, which is actually Canadian: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Columbia
@DarkStar 's main argument was that it is important to keep the historical names because they reveal the rich interesting history behind each of these names, and this has more value than having a sterile and meaningless naming convention.
