The killer's account of the killing is this: The killer says he saw Mollie Tibbetts jogging and was drawn to her. Then he got out of his car and chased her to try to talk to her and she screamed that she was going to call the police. Then he says his memory blacked out and next thing he knows he opens the trunk of his and finds her dead body. He had no recollection of ever killing her, he claims.
I am actually inclined to believe him about not remembering it. This is what I think happened: He saw Mollie jogging and thought she was attractive so he got out of his car to try to talk to her. When she started screaming at him and making him feel like a creep, this probably affected him on an emotional level, and made him feel very angry and so he just snapped and started punching her, killing her. He probably had thoughts afterwards like "what I done? did I really just do that?", and they were too much for him to handle, which is why I am guessing his mind went blank.
