It's normal but not common. Only when a chicken is injured the rest of the flock gang up on it and cannibalize it. They evolved this way because in the wild an injured chicken would never survive, and only put the rest of the flock in danger from attracting predators, so their only option is to kill it and eat it so their friend won't go to waste.
