I think it's just a malfunction of the brain. AFIK the y chromosome doesn't have that many useful genes, it mainly just controls the gene activation. So if there is a problem and it doesn't activate the "is male" gene on some parts of the brain responsible for attraction, then they are gay (if it is not activated at all) or bi (if it is only partially activated).
