I have thoughts like this (title) whenever i listen to old songs such as this one. :feelshehe: It's from 1970. Life was always hard and grimy, especially for the lower classes, but maybe it didn't feel so soulless like it does today. Idk if i'm tripping but it's like by the lyrics alone i could pick up on a certain inconscious collective/pre late-stage capitalism individualistic mindset, and i find it to be beautiful. A song like this - some working class guy singing his pain and the mundanities of life and instinctively putting other simple people into the picture - couldnt appear in our era.

By comparison, "The kids aren't alright" by The Offsprings seems really deranged, more impersonal, hopeless and undignified - i dont mean it in a pejorative sense. This song is from 98 and i remember the world still being different back then, so i see the remaining collectivistic tone as a fallout from earlier periods - if the form changed, it's because the world was already becoming shit. Now even a song such as this one couldnt see the light of day neither, we are way too cynical, atomized and competitive for that.

Like artists would give a voice to WHO ? Being a loser is suspicious now. If you're a loser and are struggling you MUST BE AN INCEL ! WHY ARENT YOU HAPPY ?:soy:
