One thing that gets on my nerves is how the average person acts hyper individualistic these days, acting like they are not subject to nature or the people's whip in the times of hardship.

No, you're not. Just as I am a "NPC" who is reliant on society, so are you. When the logistics system breakdown, we ALL are gonna be screwed. The modern life is so complicated that we rely on many complicated "goods" that can't be easily made such as, the whole IT infrastructure (think Uber and McDonald's app).
The modern world is so fragile that some groups of unorganized militias with rockets in a strategic location such as the red sea, can deny shipping and cause food prices to raise badly, forcing ships to massively spend more fuel on long expeditions.
So after this rant, what's the point? My takeaway is, since we all are reliant on the society and the people doing their jobs tirelessly, every individual has to make sacrifices; women must be good home wives, and stop the chad chasing, subject to monogamy, and men have to be working and some may even go a step further to join the military.
It's a social contract. "Individuals" are for 20 people something tribe who can never move out the cave.
