I'm no fan of US culture at all. Just enjoying the chance to share... For work I've had to travel to and live in countries all over--Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, Latin America, Europe... No boast. It's a very, very lonely, stressful life living in hotels and at the mercy of companies that can do with you whatever they feel. Having to perform at the drop of a hat. I wouldn't choose it again. But...

The biggest lesson I learned from many years living as a (US) expat is that EVERYWHERE people are, just beneath the surface, the same. I used to think I'd find someplace radically different, where people were substantively more palatable, more just. Wherever I lived and worked--rural or urban, villages of fewer than 300 people to a city of over 20M, I found people all the same once you got to know them well enough. Laws vary and shape what people can do. But the base code remains the same. Huge disappointment. Hope you find things different.

I did not travel too much around but I found that even nations that seem similar, like Denmark and Germany for instance, are different mentality wise.
Also my point about the US is that it is a western nation that is fundamentally perverted to the core. Ofcourse the US will be closer to a German or to a Frenchman than say to a Chinese.

I hear you. I lived and worked in China. On the surface, the Chinese seem different, but now that they are becoming wealthy, consumerism and entitlement are radically transforming both their culture and their individual world outlook--and therefore their behavior. I'm not a fan of ANY nation, but I don't think it's helpful (to us...) to romanticize/demonize the US (or any particular culture). The problem isn't the US itself. The root problem is human nature. From Africa to India to China to the Middle East... once people are ABLE to fck each other over for self benefit, they will. Period. Local laws vary, but the underlying human nature doesn't. American culture is so popular everywhere not because it is "the best," but for the simple reason that it is the most attractive to most people--"Do Whatever You Want So Long As You Don't Disrupt The Standing Powers." Unless there's a massive disruptive global revolution, USian Westernism is likely to become the dominant global culture because, simply, if feels best to most people. Because it sanctions and encourages selfishness everywhere from business to politics to community engineering to personal morality.
