It's a problem inherent to our species. Hopefully future scientists will one day possess the capability to gene edit future humans so that they'll be chaste and benevolent despite having better options. That being said, the dilemma with that is could we still be called virtuous if we didn't have to resist our evil nature?

This ties in with the Paarthurnax quote: “What is better, to be born good or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?”

If I'm to be entirely honest, I've seen tiny flickers of hope in people for them to eventually amount to something resembling a good person. There is a chance that, under the right conditions some could be (maybe a benevolent totalitarian regime, with severe punishments for corruption and malevolence), while preserving their natural origin. That would be ideal to me.

I think what is keeping us rooted in base animality is the lack of stability and higher purpose. We're all just chasing what we feel at the moment, instead of operating under a universal standard that we can believe in; because in order to survive and get what we want in life, we have to constantly skirt the line of morality, and we're not afforded the knowledge and/or the time to identify and adhere to a universal standard of being. Our existence is inherently cruel and we had to do everything ourselves as naked apes that only recently gained consciousness.

Before we pull the plug on humanity, I would be curious to see if there is a way to make people good. If their not constantly struggling just to survive, or pulled in different directions and deceived, could a woman stick with a man through thick and thin, and a man his woman in the truest sense?
