The swan song (Ancient Greek: κύκνειον ᾆσμα; Latin: carmen cygni) is a metaphorical phrase for a final gesture, effort, or performance given just before death or retirement. The phrase refers to an ancient belief that swans sing a beautiful song just before their death since they have been silent (or alternatively not so musical) for most of their lifetime.
This is how most of us will die. Natural selection means we will never find a mate, never reproduce, never find a companion to spend the rest of our lives with, so we will take our dying breaths alone, isolated, and away from the world. We are doomed to be unloved because our genetics have made us unfit to survive. We are quite literally "life unworthy of life."
Mother Nature abandons the children she no longer loves.
