Through my interactions with various different types of people, I’ve always noticed one thing they tend to say. It comes along the lines of:
“At least I’m myself”
or
“I don’t pretend to be someone I’m not”
The hypocritical stupidity of this line always baffles me. It’s common for people of my age group to regurgitate this train of thought without failing to realize that people are almost never their authentic selves. It simply is not likely for many to express themselves freely in the manner that they like — and especially when they are around people. And funnily enough, I know that people deep down inside know that this is complete horseshit.
It’s for this reason that I seek to isolate myself from a vast majority of people. Whatever little agency I have in my life, at least I can live my life truthfully even though it may be miserable and depressing.
