I think Asians are considered a model minority because they are financially successful. This seems to be a harmful idea because Asians are actually the least successful, given the fact of their sub-replacement fertility. The actual model minorities are the Haredi and Amish and I guess the Salafi because these groups have so many kids...

People want money and success more than they want kids though, that's the thing.

I'd also add that education doesn't make you successful. Asians are more educated than others, but this does not equal success for women. In fact, education may make women less successful. Allan Carlson and Paul Mero wrote,

[D]emographer John Caldwell emphasizes the role of mass state education in generating fertility decline. Based on research in Africa and Australia, he argues that state mandated schooling serves as the driving force behind the turn in preference from a large to a small family.

I'm not sure though.
