I don't know a lot about sufism. I have read some basic things about in a book about celibacy in religious traditions. The thing that I understood is that early sufis lead ascetic lives as a norm. But then as the centuries passed sufism became more institutionalized and lost its ascetic part, which was preserved by the more devoted sufis. And then things like the Bektashi order appeared in the 13th century, which late held strong ground in the Ottoman Empire, particularly in Albania. But the Bektashis were very influential, even the Janissary corps was part of the Bektashi order until the 17th around century.
