The interviewer asked me if I had been in special ed classes

I was getting interviewed today
I am a very quiet person and he noticed this, and he noticed each time I answered him it was with one word usually
Then he asks me if I was in this program in school, then I was like what is this
Then he asked if I had been in special ed classes
I say no and he says alright and he chuckles
I can't tell if it was my behavior or appearance that made him question that, perhaps both. I've been told I look retarded before.
