Yes, because the English are invaders in their eyes, and they (the Irish) see nothing wrong with teaming up with anyone to fight against the English. IRA considered herself a part of it. The world anti-colonial movement, because from their point of view, Ireland is the first colony of England and therefore the struggle of the IRA is no different from the struggle for independence of the blacks in Kenya Mau Mau. So, the dominance of migrants and the lack of IRA action against them is not so strange. Plus, Gaddafi's Libya and the USSR sponsored and supplied the IRA, as they also saw them as part of the global anti-colonial uprising.
