Normies ruined the internet. It's hard to say exactly when it all got pozzed with pure, weapons-grade AIDS, but it was a slow, mournful descent.
I think there were three main blows that killed the internet, roughly around 2008, 2012, and 2016. 2008 was the introduction of smartphones, which began allowing normies to browse the internet at bars and clubs and shit. 2012 was around when social media really started to blow up in popularity (yeah it was already popular at this point, but this is when boomers started mass adopting social media which was a huge blow to the quality of the internet as a whole). Then 2016 was like the nail in the coffin because of all the censorship, and even outside of that everything became hyperpoliticized to a degree that had never been seen before

Everything is so censored and sterilized now, and almost all "engagement" on popular sites comes in the form of bots or shills. It's crazy to look through 4chan archives from 2012 or so and to see how much better the average content was. Now it's just bots and discord trannies raiding entire boards. The internet used to be a good cope for me but I've hated it for almost 8 years now. I still use it simply because I feel like there's nowhere else to go. But man, fuck what the internet has become....

There is a relative decline even for zoomers such as myself that haven't grown up with the OG Internet, as the Internet we ourselves grew up with lost a lot of the fun "edge" it had (especially in the early 2010s) and its following plastification and ZOG-ification, as well as the changing demographics, since there's more and more Indians and Southeast Asians on English-speaking parts of the Internet creating a wholly different userbase in many sites.
