Something to give the elites some credit is it had to be done to stop population growth. Like India it is mentally ill that when they were at 400 million people they didn't get control of population. Now they are at 1.3 billion.

India is still growing by like 18 million a year but they got the total fertility rate down from 4.52 in 1981 to ~2.0 in 2021, going below the replacement level of 2.1 for the first time in 2021.

India might be able to cap out at something like 1.7 billion now, before starting to fall.

Meanwhile in China at 1.4 billion people the net growth in 2020 was down to 2 million. So they might have seen the peak now. I wouldn't be surprised if China lost people in 2021.
