The amount of students who actually care about that is probably in the single-digits. A very, very large portion of open seats are tailored toward the hyper-rich who attend private schools and had THEIR parents attend there in the past.

As for the rest, they just want to SHOW people that they went to a place like Standford or Harvard because they're super smart and successful. Ninety-five percent of these people can't even reasonably pay off the tuition, but they go anyway because they value the name of the university and want to brag to everyone they know.

I went to a low class borderline community college university and make a good living. I did not have good co ops (no co ops actually) or internships or whatnot but I still ended up OK.

Once you get a few years work experience it doesn't matter.

Not really, it gets to a point, let's say you earn 110k starting an entry-level position, then 250k 10 years later ok, so what happened? Your hairline went mstow you lost one PSL point you already have house your getting 5 hours of sleep daily while the guy who JBF maxxed might get a house at 40 lets say but he is objectively better off because after a point it doesn't matter

your preaching to the choir I am a high iq nigga who knows high iq niggas but my point is at 400k does it matter what youll get a bigger house to remind you how empty your sexlife.to understand my perspective better, think about a set of cars.car1=500 car2=5k car3=16k car4=100k the differnce between car1 and car2 is major AC cooling nicer seats, doesn't break down constantly, makes gas cost less because it's better per mile, might have bluetooth or at the very least AUX. but the jump from car2 to car3 is major, maybe heated seats, maybe a screen, maybe Apple CarPlay major sure but not much but the difference for car3 and car4 is less by a major, maybe it could go 100 more mph and maybe has corba seats but its far more similar to car3 than the others. And that's the problem with money: the scale only gets so far, then it curves out.
