My favorite quote is GK Chesterton's on suicide.
One of my favorite parts of The Bible is when there's a earthquake and the doors to the jail open, the jailer becomes suicidal, and apostle Paul tells him not to do it.
This list is incomplete because I've only read the New Testament.
"Thou shalt not kill'
"What a gift life is to those who stay the course!"
"And if they will not ... endure to the end, they must be damned; for the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, has spoken it."
To continue life despite pain is endurance.
"He that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved"
"You who are servants, be good servants to your masters—not just to good masters, but also to bad ones. What counts is that you put up with it for God’s sake when you’re treated badly for no good reason"
Although you might think this is just about slavery, it can apply to Christians since they're said to be slaves of God. To commit suicide is to not "put up with it." For example, Romans 6:22 said "But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life." I'm sort of stretching it. The implication is that God makes us suffer and we should put up with it
"Friends, when life gets really difficult, don’t jump to the conclusion that God isn’t on the job. Instead, be glad that you are in the very thick of what Christ experienced."
In my opinion, to commit suicide is to give up on the Christ experience. Suffering should make you be glad, and when you're glad or happy you don't want to die. I know I might be stretching it.
Jesus did say to carry a cross, but I don't consider that suicide. I think he's saying to become a martyr for the Christian cause, not committing suicide because you feel pain. I don't think Jesus wanted to be crucified.
The story of Adam and Eve
They ate the fruit they weren't supposed to and therefore were doomed to die. Suicide is like that. It shortens your life. To commit suicide is to eat from the tree of knowledge. Eating from that tree was a form of suicide because it reduced their own lives.
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,..."
Long-suffering is endurance.
"Don’t run from suffering; embrace it."
I do think you should reduce your suffering if you can. Part of reducing your suffering is having positive thoughts. But suicide is running from suffering and a sin.
"Anyone signing up for the kingdom of God has to go through plenty of hard times."
If you reject hard times, perhaps that's like rejecting God. If you can't even go through your own personal struggles, how will you endure Christian struggle? Christianity is for the strong.
"As the rocks rained down, Stephen prayed, 'Master Jesus, take my life'"
Google says he wasn't apostle though. He wasn't God. I think Jesus did the opposite. When he was crucified he rejected the pain relieving drink. It's stretching it but this drug may have accelerated his death. I think that's why so many right-to-die supporters support palliative care. Jesus didn't want to die. That's why he sweated blood, asked God why he forsook him, and argued with the people.
Paul did say he wanted to join God, which may or may not mean suicide: "The desire to break camp here and be with Christ is powerful." Just because someone is an apostle doesn't mean they're good. Judas the traitor was an apostle. And, Paul goes against Christ by using "infantile" as an insult even though Christ said you need to be like a child to enter the kingdom.
"Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted"
Patience is a virtue. If you stay the course, things will get better.
"Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer."
