Seems like a good way to delay any possible rescue attempt. And it also keeps you in the room as well since you may not even have the strength to back out even if you wanted to.

I mean depending on the method, once you start, you might as well finish the job because if you don’t then not only will you still have the problems that drove you to suicide in the first place, you’ll have to deal with permanent damage if you live.

Even if it hurts, might as well get to the end of it. Otherwise it would defeat the entire purpose.
