Asia is ethnonationalist, and I will list out some traits that are not common in the West, but are mainstream in Asia, like in Japan and Korea.
- Asian countries tend to be majoritarianist, minorities are expected to conform to the dominant group.
- To be a member, one has to have some blood of one of the designated ethnic groups by the government (such is the case in China)
- Assilmation is expected even if you are the majority ethnicity, as many Western values from returnees can alienate the locals
- The State is the Ethnicity and the Ethnicity is the State. For example, in Asian languages, they usually do not differ the nationality and ethnicity; a Korean is called 韓國人, meaning Korea Country Person, regardless of wherever they are, a Korean citizenship white person would be called 韓國籍人 (Korea Country Citizenship Person)
- Asians do not see their governments as separate from themselves. In return, any bad policy from the government is viewed as undermining the ethncity
- Whether with independent institutional checks or not, Asian institutions prefer not to upset the harmony of the collective
- Top-level macro decisions are seen as an extension of the people ("We funded your trains!")
- Asians are expected to paint their countries in good image everywhere, or they risk being seen as traitors
- Asian Diaspora are generally expected to be loyal to their home countries due to blood connections
- Asian governments (used to) glorify the pure race thing, mentioning the yellow skin, black eyes and hair of the ethnicity
- Asian countries generally lack of hate speech and anti-racist laws, or at least these laws are toothless and are rarely used
- Asians and Asian countries generally reject refugees and have very low amount of refugees
- Foreign workers are given short stay Visa with no paths to citizenship
- Even among foreign workers, they tend to be racially related (like South East Asians)
- Unlike the West, these ethnocentric policies do not equate low taxes or expensive healthcare; welfare policies are expected for the ethncity
- The state relies on a founding myth of a related people and may use rebirth narratives
- Open display of nationalism is not frowned upon
- The people see their big corps (usually state sponsored) as representatives of the nation and are proud about them, even though they may be resentful of exploitations
- Hierarchy is key. Followers are expected to be obedient (at least to macro goals) to their leaders, in exchange, leaders are expected to be benevolent
There are more traits, so ask away if you want.
