Thus, non-NW Euros will fight among themselves and with NW Euros and will coalesce around a shared identity, but NW Europeans will side with nons against other Europeans.

Yes, all Europeans have issues with petty nationalism/in-group preference (one need only look at the Balkans), but at some point non-NW Euros get over the problem when facing genuine threats from outsiders in a way that they often fail to do.
