The female body finishes maturing at 16, the brain finishes maturing at 22. Why is 18? It should be either 16 or 22. (it is 16 in some states.) 18 is not full mental development and it has nothing over 16. 18 is only the age of consent because 18 is the legal age of adulthood in some old European countries and it's only the age of adulthood because that's the age when boys would be sent to war. There's no actual science or logic behind it.

It was a way to make sure people didn’t use getting married and having a kid as an excuse to drop out of high school. Obviously people have sex out of marriage now, but back then they weren’t thinking about it from the perspective of trying to stop 19 year olds from being with 17 year olds.

In Poland we finish high school (actually only some types of high school which is even funnier) with "matura" aka "maturity exam" which is a kek name for a generic high school exit exam where they test you on math, languages, your chosen subjects (for college), stuff like that. I remember my parents saying something like "now you're officially an adult" after I went thru it, which is kek, how solving some math problems make you an adult, I'm so behind in developmental milestones that I'm still waiting for my first sleepover, at this rate I'll move out at 50.
