There is no difference between the Taliban fighters and Shias. Every single day, they prosecute Salafis like Shias do in their satellite government over the two-river land. For example, the Afghan militiamen in Hamah or similar Syrian provinces sleep along with their Iranian comrades (inside their blankets) when doing fail-prone campaigns over the Central desert.

Some of them do, it's true. Those sects do not represent Islam. Even most brainwashed Iraqi shias believe Ali created God... but I haven't found any proof over the books to this date.

salafi doesn't equal sunni. There are sunnis that are salafi, but also sunnis that aren't. Depends on Madhhab.
Taliban are hanafi, because most afghanis are hanafi. Hanafi is the main school in pakistan, turkey and other countries too.
Salafis/Wahabis are more popular in arab countries.

The problem is, many Sunnis in Afghanistan (or opposers to the Haqqani network) are labelled as Salafi or pro-ISKP, with weekly disappearances occurring in every province. No proof is given in many cases. Would you stand up, at least for those few innocent inkwells?
