If you “take things personally”, this just means that you have a natural response to insults, petty comments, passive aggressive remarks; etc

Of course, all these insults and snide comments are worded in a way where, when you naturally respond with hostility or anger, they can pull this gaslight card on you because of the way they worded it against you. “You’re just taking it personally bro!”
