In an October 2015 study of college students about revealing sexual orientation or virginity, they discovered that both straight men and women and gay men and women were uncomfortable with the idea of revealing oneself to others as a virgin. Although straight women did not think coming out as a virgin was more uncomfortable to do than coming out as lesbian, they found both much less comfortable than coming out as straight. Straight men, gay men and gay women all felt less comfortable coming out as a virgin than coming out as straight or even gay. Men and women both were less comfortable to come out as a virgin than as gay when it came to any kind of target audience (i.e.: who they’re talking to) except romantic partners. Despite that, men and women both were still less comfortable to come out as a virgin to a romantic partner than to come out as straight to one. Gay people, however, were less comfortable to come out as a virgin to a romantic partner than to even come out as gay or even straight to a romantic partner. In fact, gay people were less comfortable to come out as a virgin than they were to come out as even gay to every other type of target audience, even PARENTS and COUNSELORS, Counselors, in fact, were someone gay people were quite comfortable to come out as gay, too, which is remarkable.

what's also noteworthy is how we all hear from the media about parents disowning gay sons and daughters and how gay people were afraid to come out of the closet to parents. this is remarkable.

This just shows you how much more virginity is stigmatized than being gay. Yeah homophobia has worse QUALITY because we won't be victims of hate crime or violence, but virgin shaming has worse QUANTITY as in there's more people who stigmatize virgins than who stigmatize gays. In fact, if you virgin shame people will either tolerate it at worst or just think you're a bit of a jerk and move on instantly at best, but if you're a homophobe, people will hate and ostracize you. Even saying you oppose gay marriage is enough to get hated/ostracized. The percentage of people who virgin shame is higher than the percentage who are homophobes, and most americans support gay marriage, so being a virgin is more stigmatized than being gay. it's the new coming out of the closet. It's safer coming out as gay than coming out as a virgin. A virgin is way more likely to face ridicule and gets ridiculed by a larger number of people. If a homophobe is hated, people will defend them, but a virgin? people won't defend them. we even have campaigns against slut shaming but none against virgin shaming, and you will be crucified many times these days for slut shaming, including for slut shaming a chick who fucked 100 strangers. Only 12 gay people responded, and it's a minuscule sample size, but still noteworthy, they should replicate this study for further information.

@Robtical @Master @TheProphetMuscle pin?

true, being a virgin (until losing it to an escort) was one thing i always hid from others. on the other hand, i see it's quite common that people are coming out as gay these days and i haven't heard one person admit they're virgin in public

it's both surprising and embarassing that being a virgin is somehow seen as a bad thing nowadays, when in the past people who managed to keep their virginity intact until marriage (for women at least) were highly praised and seen as valuable

yep. now people are more obsessed with how many people you fucked as curious question (even people you date will ask this shit) than they are with virginity

yep. many LGBT people come out but most virgins just keep it a secret.

Seriously this needs more replies

The only thing we should only expect this study culturally is 'virgin comfort' or ' asexual awareness' for women, while no plans for helping for incels.

@-BrettyBoy-

Gay people get defended at least while sexually inactive men just get trashed.

that's how you know the world is fucked and needs purging. in a moral and religious society faggots get admonished, not virgins. it's absolutely no surprise arse-fuckers have the gall to be proud the sickening shit they get up to, after all they are literally encouraged to by society. i also suspect scumbags like redditors and hollywood propaganda like american pie are to blame for further shaming purity and virginity.

Coming out as gay is seen as heroic by many and it's something that's celebrated nowadays. Even if someone has a problem with it they probably won't say anything from fear of reprisal in most places. Of course that's not true everywhere but it doesn't carry the same stigma it used to. Rewind 60 years and the results of the study would be more interesting. I think you'd see the reverse. Society's gone degenerate

Blame the sexual revolution

I hate this world so much

@Robtical must read?

I was thinking about this not long ago, the pressure on me every single day to lose my virginity increases and an escort seems like the only way :fuk:

I swear virgins get more ridiculed and excluded than assassins or rapists, it literally better to be a criminal than a virgin in this age

@ThoughtfulCel

“coming out as straight? wtf? how does one “come out” as straight? it’s literally the norm

@ThoughtfulCel
Its hilarious that the reaction you get from being found out to be a virgin solely depends on your appearance.

If you're ugly, being a virgin only magnifies the fact that you're a genetic failure, thus decreasing your chances to procreate.

“coming out as straight? wtf? how does one “come out” as straight? it’s literally the norm
Telling people they’re straight

how can you feel uncomfortable with that
Idk they’re just looking at how stigmatized being gay or a virgin is to being straight

Nigga you have a Shadow the Hedgehog gif as your sig

why

same with humanity
And they got away with chink flu and the war!
Damn these fucking normies, they get away with anything!
Impossible that humanity is not ending anytime!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA :reeeeee::reeeeee::reeeeee::reeeeee::reeeeee::reeeeee::reeeeee:

What about asexual people? what ppl think about them?

admitting to virginity is admitting your genes are trash.
