This took place in middle school, a simpler time. One of my closest friends then was a kid I’ll call John. We’d been tight since third or fourth grade, countless afternoons spent screwing around outside and on the game. John was a year older, in the grade above me, so we didn’t share classes. He was the kind of kid who was kind-hearted, but painfully shy around strangers. His NDness made him an easy target for most people in his grade.
One afternoon, on our walk home, John told me kids in his grade were bullying him. My first instinct was to tell him to stand up for himself, to fight back. But then he told me the main bully was a girl, and not just any girl she was the most popular, strikingly attractive girl in his class. He admitted he couldn’t bring himself to confront her, let alone fight back. The bullying was very intense.
I vividly remember my last day walking home from school with him. We were talking about Watch Dogs 2 (his favorite game). That was the last time I ever saw him. That night he jumped off the top of his apartment building falling about 5 stories onto concrete. He died in the hospital 6 days later. The next days at school showed me how fake people really were. There was a school assembly where the 7th and 8th grade where called into an auditorium to “grief counsel”. I remember seeing that same bitch, the one responsible for it. The one who bullied him to death balling her eyes out and whimpering. When I saw that I felt a rage I’d never felt before. She even posted a memorial photo to her instagram. The worst part no one said anything about what she did. John’s mom was completely destroyed and she asked me if I knew anything about what happened( he didn’t leave a note) I told her what I knew. She tried contacting her parents and the school to no avail. His mom moved away shortly after I think she started abusing drugs.
Brutal, he died in 2017
