Because... these days houses in the UK are very highly insulated. They have mandatory ratings (EPC) that essentially mandate very good insulation, to an increasingly strict degree.
So in summer it's like being in a greenhouse. A/C is absolutely imperative if you have a hot summer, if you want to truly feel comfortable.
And yet... it's like many people in the UK want to not get it, be really hot, and then complain that they're hot.
Wild, IMO.
