RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Multiple shoplifters were seen on video brazenly stealing from a Marshalls location in Hemet.
Lindsey Rodriguez, a resident of Hemet who recorded the suspects, told NBC4 the shoplifters calmly walked inside and took anything they wanted.
A woman even used wire cutters to cut off security tags on expensive purses.
Rodriguez and her husband Pancho followed the purse thief, who took off in a dark-colored car, the report read.
She called 911 and a Hemet officer arrived at the scene shortly after and ran a license plate, but didn’t see anyone suspicious, according to police.
Police also said no one from Marshalls reported the crimes so far.
The incident comes after numerous videos have surfaced in recent months showing people shoplifting in California.
Prop 47, a 2014 referendum that lowered criminal sentences on crimes such as shoplifting, is to blame for the recent increases, according to Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Jerretta Sandoz.
