BOONE COUNTY — A Boone County Sheriff’s deputy was struck by an SUV fleeing a robbery in Northern Kentucky, body cam video shows.
Deputies responded to Twin Hills Court in Union at around 10:40pm Friday following reports of a burglary in progress with a stolen vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.
Officials say the suspects found a garage door opener in an unlocked car near a residence. The suspects then opened the garage and entered an unlocked Audi SUV parked inside.
The homeowners called police and deputies located the stolen vehicle on Rice Pike and tried to intercept it on US 42.
The SUV nearly struck a cruiser as it fled toward Florence, the sheriff’s office said.
BCSO Lt. Chris Hall positioned himself on the US-42/Interstate 75 overpass to deploy spike strips and the SUV struck Hall while outside of his patrol vehicle. The SUV then continued fleeing northbound onto I-75, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities said the SUV then exited the interstate at Erlanger where the suspects abandoned the stolen vehicle in the area of Commonwealth Avenue and Baker Street, FOX 19 reported.
The suspects were picked up on Riggs Road in Erlanger by a man and a woman after using a ride-sharing application and deputies stopped the car on Riggs Road.
The driver complied with authorities and both the man and woman won’t face any charges, deputies said.
Hall was taken to the hospital with injuries to his arms and legs and has since been released.
All four suspects are being held at the Campbell County Detention Center where they face attempted murder and stolen property charges.
