It’s gotta be a form of Stockholm syndrome. It’s heartbreaking to see happen. The wife here probably deep down believes she can “fix” the husband. She has probably been belittled and abused so much that her brain is essentially just trying to survive by forcing itself to become bonded with her abuser. It’s fucked.
