Watching anime is more of a symptom of being an outcast than the cause of being one. If you're a loser teencel then you would gravitate more to escapist media. Anime doesn't reflect reality but it portrays a more idealised version of it and social outcasts can also identify more with the protagonists. The reason why normies love watching reality tv and other assorted trash is because their lives are similar to what's portrayed on those shows, it shows people being social, love etc.
