Russia has mandatory military service at age 18, men have to serve for 1 year. I think its mid-April that the next group has to show up for service. Of course all the rich and/or smart people surely have found exemptions.
On the other hand there is huge pressure in Russia from the families of the current 750,000 conscripts serving their 1 year of duty(and I imagine that will get extended somehow) and the families of the next round of 750,000 who want this war over before their son gets drafted/deployed. It will also take time to train up and get the new conscripts ready.
Another aspect is there is talk that in Russia they are near strong arming men 19-30 to join 'voluntarily'. The state can't outright force non-conscripts to join, but they can make it sound like there is no choice and the state and society can put a lot of pressure on people. Plus with control of information, they can try to convince people to fight.
After Russia got punched so hard by the Javelins, Stingers & some drones the Ukrainians have, I view that the Russians have changed tactics to be a lot better. Their new strategy/tactics is basically using their artillery and blasting down positions, then moving the infantry up a bit. It just takes a very, very long time to make progress, and they can't be all spread out around the country like at the start.
But this way the Javelins aren't as big of a problem. The drones still are, but the Ukrainians don't have that many yet, and the Russians also have some drones. And Russia seems to be moving in more air defenses equipment and thinking of how to counter the drones.
