I got finished watching and reading love is war a day ago and I haven't felt this much misery in a short while. I subjected myself to watch and read it but only because I heard a lot of positive reviews about it online. This was my first romance anime I've watched and it is probably gonna be my last. I get some people watch this for comfort but for me it was a reminder on just much I truly missed out in my high school experience. No big friend group I could hang out with everyday, no girlfriend I could confess to and love and certainly not the success some of the characters had with both Kaguya and Shirogane have like intelligence or skill. It was a reminder on how much of i have missed of my teenage years and now it is too late.
Not to mention one of the characters (ishigami) being the stereotypical emo/incel kid and even he experienced teenage love and teenage friends. And to see everyone support him during the sport festivals despite his flaws and rumors genuinely broke me because it just simply doesnt work like that in real life. Completely unrealistic and it was just pure ropefuel for me. I envy those who find comfort in romance animes/mangas because for me this was nothing more than a painful reminder on the things I've missed out on and will never experience
