Some people just needs to get something in return from God to be able to believe. That's because normies are usually at the 1 or 2 levels of morality, and are not able to understand God like the - for example - Apostles or Saints did.
To be able to believe in God's message and understand him more clearly is both a gift and curse - gift from the spiritual and intelectual perspective, and a curse from the materialistic one. That's basically the story of Job - he needed to go through a literal hell in his life to trully understand why he believe in God. And he received a great reward for this, by achieving the religious enlightenment and peace later in Heaven. And because most of us here are blessed with the higher level od morality, that's the path that we have to go. It's not an easy path (in the materialistic sense), but actually the only one which leads to enlightenment. Easy life means living in a constant ignorance, but hard life makes you stronger and - more importantly - more observant and wiser
